Real Nation, a Concept
We propose that:
The concept of a nation is so notoriously open to controversy that what is normally forgotten is the fact that a nation is first and foremost an idea. It is an idea that springs from the expression of a natural human desire for a community of people with common values and for freedom from dominance over the will and desires of its people in their pursuit of happiness.
The editors of Real Nation believe that such was the beginning of the United States. After successfully defeating its enemy, there arose a unique nation whose people, institutions, guiding philosophy and history, though imperfect, held a promise for both its own citizenry and for the entire world. The United States of America is a nation that unequivocally was created from intentions and ideals matured by Western Civilization. As such, it’s very survival requires it be guided by an ethos that is particularly and distinctively Judeo-Christian.
The founders and editors of RealNation.com contend that much of the conflict and tension within the people of our country are complicated by vagueness and fashionable ideologies. What we know for certain is that these conflicts or culture wars are a clash of values. Some of these values have developed from distinct human experiences, including some rooted in centuries of human deliberations within the framework of philosophy and religion. Others are simply convenient, if not outright fashionable and for a limited and a particular moment in time.
Judeo-Christian Realism and Cultural Relativism
For the sake of simplification, and to avoid a politically correct discourse of the histories, cultures, religions and civilizations that gave rise to today's most debated values, we take a position that the current culture wars can be defined within two philosophical categories.
1) Judeo-Christian Realism
2) Cultural Relativism
These two categories are necessarily limited and do not take into consideration certain values existing outside of each other. We believe, however, that people holding these other values would find sympathetic support or rejection within one or both of these categories. Therefore, we must begin somewhere.
Since Real Nation aligns itself with the first category, we will identify the principle values that we believe are within our definition of Judeo-Christian Realism. Real Nation believes in the reality of objective principles of right and wrong. Furthermore, we believe these principles are easily understood by a reasonable person and are evident in natural law.
On the other hand, Cultural Relativism rejects the reality of objective principles of right and wrong and argues that there is no absolute truth or a natural law. Cultural Relativism holds the view that all cultures are of equal value and that truth depends upon the believer. Therefore, what is of value to one will not necessarily be of value to another; what is right to one can be wrong to another.
Life, Family and Culture
Real Nation proposes that the clashes of values from a Judeo Christian Realism position are most clearly defined within three key social realities.
1) Life
A realistic look at our current society reveals a fundamental problem - the loss of respect for human life and dignity. This is evident in many ways: the legal void that permits abortion right up to birth; medical research that authorizes the destruction of embryos; increasing acceptance of euthanasia and assisted suicide; abuse of women and children; the silence that surrounds so many situations of poverty; widespread prostitution, pornography and drugs.
Human life and human dignity encounter too many obstacles in our current society.
The culture war must first be fought over human rights, with a clear understanding that the most basic of all human rights is the right to life. If the right to life is not respected, we should not be surprised that other rights – rights that come with life - will eventually be threatened.
2) Family
The attempt to redefine marriage contradicts the reality inscribed in nature.
The success of our culture must begin with an acknowledgement of this indisputable fact: love and marriage between a man and a woman is the foundation of the family. The family is the basic unit of a stable society. Our public schools must respect these convictions and not propose conflicting visions to our children.
The family, as the vital social unit, is not at the service of the state; rather, the state should be at the service of the family.
3) Culture
Our culture is distinctively Western and Judeo-Christian. Currently, many novel and pernicious principles have been introduced to our culture by special interest groups claiming both civil rights as minorities as well as a first amendment right to be heard. Each of these principles seeks to incorporate itself into modern society under the guise of so-called cultural or sexual diversity. The groups promoting these principles do so with vagueness and without any attempt to foster an open and free discussion of their possible threats to the very civilization from which we derive our most important principles.
Real Nation is not opposed to the study of the world's great religions, cultures, and traditions. In fact, we promote their study and their appreciation and contribution to the understanding of human nature. The world's great religions, cultures, and traditions share our conviction in the reality of objective principles of right and wrong as they are evident to any reasonable person and are evident in natural law. Nevertheless, the fact remains that the United States of America was founded and flourishes from a foundation that is deeply rooted on laws, philosophies, and institutions that are clearly and distinctively Western and Judeo-Christian. To deny this fact is to dismiss the obvious. Any attempt to alter this reality would be foolish and deficient since reality constitutes itself independent of anyone. Any attempt to alter reality is subversive and dangerous to our culture and civilization since it would oppose a fact.
Real Nation does not believe that our public schools or our local, state or federal government have any right to undermine parents in their efforts to teach our Western Judeo-Christian heritage to their children. Real Nation is concerned that special interest groups have succeeded in passing laws that promote alternative lifestyles and diversity school curriculums that teach vague values and principles that conflict with the parents’ child rearing efforts and the clear values upon which our country was founded. Our government should not be allowed to govern education.
A Real Nation is a sovereign state whose citizens are united by a common language and commonly shared attitude, religious sense and behavior. It is a sovereign territory with its own laws and government and with no legal authority outside of its territorial limits.
A Real Nation has a military and citizens who are willing to fight to the death for the sovereignty of their territory and for the protection and security of their family and property. A real nation is based on the idea of a democratic community ready to prevent its governors from embarking in new and deadly war adventures. A Real Nation has an establishment document that forms the foundation of the legal and political system for which it stands. This document in the United States is called the United States Constitution. It preserves the intentions of the founding fathers. In addition, most importantly, it guides the country towards a continuity of clear principles and values that define the particular identity of its citizens.
